I love to explore new places and see how other people live. This weekend I am in Richmond, Virginia to visit a college friend. As she was working a morning shift at her job, I took time to explore the little towns that made Richmond so unique. Unlike a typical major city with just one big area designated as "downtown"; Richmond has different towns making it one big city. In about 4 hours I visited Carytown, Downtown, the Fan District, and the Museum District. Each area had its own unique quality. I really enjoyed myself during my exploration.
My friend and I went out to dinner pretty early so that we could take pictures and see more of Richmond while the sun was still out. So my outfit was pretty casual and comfortable.
This oversized denim jacket is my most recent buy which I adore! I wear it almost everyday now. I got it from Forever 21 in the men's section. For this particular look, I styled it with a black denim skirt and a high neck bralette. I really wanted to keep this outfit casual, just embodying my everyday urban-chic style. I accessorized with my clear framed glasses and my wire-wrapped crystal pendant necklace that I made.
So today marked the last day of classes for me at Philadelphia University as a 4th year student! This is the end of my journey at this school and I am so excited and grateful for everything I've accomplished over the years. Graduation is in a few weeks and I couldn't be happier!
Because today was such a celebration, I had to make sure I did not miss out on a little photoshoot with this cute little outfit. The spring time is perfect for jumpsuits, so I decided to bring mine out. Usually, I don't believe jumpsuits flatter my body because I'm so skinny but I love them and the way the look on other people. However, this jumpsuit proved me wrong when I first tried it on and fell in love with it.
In detail, I paired this jumpsuit with my fishnet tights, a mesh bodysuit underneath, white adidas and layered with a pink duster just to add an extra touch. To pull the quirky look all together, I put on my gold oversized circle glasses and gold pendant necklace.
Today I'm featuring one of my best friends, Terence Coston! This was my very first friend at Philadelphia University. We instantly became friends on the first day of the schools' START program, catered to giving the freshman class a head start of what college will be like for the next 4 years. From that day, we've grown into our true selves with each other side by side. I'm happy to still be able to call him my best friend.
The great thing about having best friends is the fact that you will always have someone that shares your interest and will support you in whatever you do. I'm truly blessed to say that I have a few friends that I can depend on to have my back. The other great thing about best friends is having someone that inspires you to be the best you and this guy has done just that.
Terence seems to be my male twin when it comes to my fashion sense. We have always had the same sense of style and as you can see today was just a pure example of how similarly we think. Today was one of the many days where our outfits were almost identical.
My outfit: I decided to base my outfit on this distressed denim mini skirt I just bought. I paired it with my mesh top showing off my lace bralette. I topped it off with a green vest and my snake skin booties. For Terence’s outfit: he recently bought this dope mesh shirt with this cool hem detail. He paired it with a basic pair of light wash jeans and his go-to hightop vans. We accessorized with gold chains, however mine was turned into a choker for a chic look.
As you may be able to tell from previous posts, I love being simple with a high focus on stylish trends and standout pieces. Today was no different than any other. Being simple allows me to feel comfortable and carefree; matching my personality. I'm not that big on accessorizing with jewelry, but when I do, it's just as simple as I keep my outfits.
Today I wore one of my favorite longline white buttondown tops. I paired it with my grey suede thigh-high boots and pink duster jacket. I enjoy picking out a certain color palette first and then figuring out which pieces will go best together. Once I picked out the white top, I decided to go with this soft color palette, embodying a cool and relaxed vibe on this beautiful day.
"Go shawty it's Sherbert Day!" Whoop whoop! It's my birthday!
Haha. I've been in a very good mood today because of the obvious, it's my birthday! I just turned 22 and I feel great. Birthday's are always my favorite days to dress up and truly show off. Honestly, this year was the worst year in terms of the weather on my birthday. Usually, today would be the best day of the week because almost every year it was always raining or really cloudy throughout the week and then March 1st would be the only sunny day. However, this year the entire week was pretty gloomy but I still managed to be bold and enjoy my day.
So today I went for a simple look but each piece had its own touch of style with key details adding to the overall look. I just bought this sheer polka dot dress and I am absolutely in love with it. I love the fact that it has a simple silhouette to it so that I can pair it with anything. It has this black slip dress that was attached to it but I've already decided that I am going to detach the slip so that I can wear the sheer part with just about anything to give an outfit a little bit of an edge. I paired this dress with one of the few pair of sneakers that I own. I live for these sneakers because they are super comfortable and the fact that they are bright red always adds that pop to any outfit. Lastly, because it was a little chilly, I threw on my favorite leather jacket to keep it simple.
The sheer dress look is definitely one of the hottest trends this spring/summer. They're so easy to wear and pair with plenty of other items, so take advantage of this trend before it's gone if it's something you could see yourself in.
What is your go-to style category? Do you have one particular look that you go for or do you have a kind of eclectic style? It never hurts to try new trends and create your own look. Sometimes it's a little easier to keep up an aesthetic by following a certain style category and making it your own. But if you're like me, then you enjoy dipping into all kinds of categories and making it your own by giving a little of your personality to the look. I tend to gravitate more towards a grungy, urban kind of style, but I always happen to be following at least one trend and mix it in with my own personal style.
With today's outfit, I went for a very feminine grungy look. I live for denim and showing some kind of skin. So this adorable denim, mini overall dress was the basis of my outfit. Underneath the dress, I put on a sheer high-neck bodysuit with a bandeau underneath that. I kept everything black and threw on a light pink duster with a bold, platform boot. These floral boots are the newest addition to my wardrobe as they were intended to bring in the Spring season. I love these shoes because they are very edgy but still feminine with the color palette and print.
Faux fur is one of those statement pieces that you add to your closet because of the look of luxury. It adds a touch of style to any kind of outfit, whether it's simple or chic. It's such a controversial piece because a lot of people will wonder whether it is real or fake. The fact that animal cruelty is such a big issue in the world, it makes it a little tough for people to even throw on any kind of fur. However, if you want to wear fur, do as you please, as it will always be your own choice of what you wear that truly matters.
Today, I decided that I should dust off the ol' white faux fur. I love this fur vest because it's so soft and luxurious-like; it adds so much flair to the outfit. I paired the vest with a bold, orange mini-skirt, a grey, high-neck top and thigh-highs. To complete the entire outfit, I decided to go with a bold printed coat. Since it was cold outside, I wanted to throw on a coat but keep up the look that I was going for with the rest of the outfit. Because all of the colors were pretty muted and earthy, the look came together as a whole. I think that's the biggest thing to look for when putting together busy outfits.
Simplicity used to be kind of hard for me to accept sometimes when I would try to find something to wear. A lot of the time I tried to make outfits that were pretty bold and made heads turn. I was obsessed with buying items that were over the top or had a very bold print. I finally realized that simplicity is quite essential in making a great outfit. On a typical day, it's just enough to throw on a simple outfit that has one stand out piece. Once I realized that, I focused on making simple outfits first and then looking for one or two items that could make the outfit pop a little more.
For this outfit, I started with one of my favorite pair of black jeans; high-waisted distressed black skinny jeans, then followed with a blue sleeveless button down shirt, black leather jacket, and snake skin booties. Once again, I threw in my staple leather jacket just because it adds a stylish touch with the added functionality of warmth. This outfit is so simple and effortless, yet very stylish and put together. Simplicity is key when it comes to making an outfit, with the intention of still making a statement.
“Pieces in your closet that you can throw on with anything and your outfit will look great.”
Staples can be anything you truly want that can make any outfit come together. Generally, staples are those pieces in your closet that you can throw on with literally anything and your outfit will look great. Most people consider staples to be a simple, solid article of clothing that can be paired with absolutely anything. Others may think of it as those major pieces that make every outfit stand out. In my opinion, I believe it's both. I have basic and statement staples in my closet that I think can be paired with almost everything that I own. Staples can include clothing and shoes.
In this outfit, my staples are literally my entire outfit. I love to layer, so this longline, white button down shirt is my all-time favorite white shirt. You can't see the sleeves but it has a bell sleeve at the wrists with a tie detail to keep them tight. It has slits on the sides up to my hip to allow movement. Next, I have my favorite light-washed skinny ankle jeans. These are a staple because they are basic jeans but they have a frayed end detail at the bottom of the jeans just to give a little extra style to them. Next, is my black leather jacket. I can wear this jacket with absolutely anything in my closet. It is a moto-jacket with the belt lining the hem of the jacket. It has a removable fur collar that gives me the option to add a little warmth around my neck for the cooler days or take it off for a clean and simple leather jacket. Lastly, I have these snake skin booties. These are actually a very recent addition to my closet! These are a statement staple due to the print , but I can wear them with any basic outfit just to add a little pop. Animal print is becoming the new neutral.
I believe every one should develop a line of at least 5 staple pieces. This will allow you to easily make outfits every single day. If you can't figure out what to wear throw on one or two of your staple pieces and go from there. It becomes pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
Although it is the beginning of February and it snowed three days ago, the weather today was pretty amazing. It had to have been in the low 50's but there was no wind blowing, making the air feel still.
Today I decided to stick with a cool monotone color palette. Because it looked pretty stagnant of cool greys and whites outside, I figured today could be a great day to bring out my brand new thigh-high boots! I focused my entire outfit around the light grey boots with a detailed heel. I threw on a charcoal black, silk, shift dress and a marbled dark grey cardigan. Because the heel of my boot had a detailed print, I wanted that to be the focal point of my outfit. Therefore, I just put a simple chain necklace and a couple of basic bracelets on.
Also if you've noticed, I picked up on the trend of pom-pom keychains. The burgundy pom-pom on the side of my purse was a cute detail to add to this basic black purse. I usually just leave it on my purse or switch it with the light grey one that I also bought with it. This trend is just a cute, playful addition that you can add to whatever you want, as I've seen some people put it on their keys, purses, or wallets.
In the cooler months of January through March, there are always those few days where it is a little warmer than usual. Sometimes it's a little too cold to leave the house without a coat, but warm enough to leave it open and catch a breeze. Sometimes it's a bit too warm to wear as many layers as you may normally do, but too cool to show some skin. The weather has been a strange character for while now and it's a little hard to say whether or not you can wear certain pieces in your closet at the moment.
This day in particular was pretty warm for a day in January, supposedly one of the coldest months of the year. Surprisingly, it was warm enough to show a little skin, but too cold to walk out without a coat and a couple of layers.
In general, I love to layer! Layers are what define my personal style. I have to have at least 3 pieces of clothing on to feel remotely complete for the day. This outfit consisted of a black denim overall skirt, a gray and black crop top, burgundy thigh-high socks, and a tan parka. Usually, in the cooler months I only wear boots and today was no exception; I threw on my basic black Chelsea boots to complete my look.
